June 2008

Last Day of School- The last day of school is Tuesday, June 17th. It will be a half day and HED will be open until 6:00. Please remember to send a lunch and also there is NO 3:15 bus.

FYI- The first day of school will be August 26th.

Well we have made it to the final month of school. This year has gone by so quickly! By now, hopefully you have heard that HED has been given a 3 year contract by the town! It was a long process and we are so grateful for all of the support, letters, e-mails etc. from so many families. Thank you all! We are now finally able to enroll for the fall. There is more information on that later in this newsletter. In the meantime, even though June is a short month we will be very busy. Here are the plans:

End of the Year Cook-out for the Kids!
This annual event is scheduled for Thursday, June 5th, rain or shine. It is from 12:15- 1:30 and it is for all kids enrolled in HED. If Thursday is not a typical day for your child to attend HED we need written permission. If this is the case with your child, you should have received and returned a separate permission form. There is no need to send a lunch this day unless your child will not eat a hamburger or hot dog. Please see Mrs. Culkins if you have any questions.

17th Annual HED Olympic Games!
This theme week is scheduled for June 9-13. The children will be split into teams and work cooperatively on team names, chants and flags. We encourage all children to participate in some capacity as we do so many team-oriented events such as the much anticipated Water Day! This day is not as wet as it sounds, but we have a lot of fun running relay races with water balloons and the like. There are opening and closing ceremonies and lots of fun!

Skill Camp
Baseball Skill Camp will continue through the school year taking only the 12th off for Olympic events. As always, please see Mr. Cuzzupe if you have questions.

June Themes
The other themes aside from Olympics are Sunny Days and Aloha.

Show DVD’s
Should be available soon. Please remember they are $15.00 and are COD. We will keep you updated.

Fall Enrollment
We are now accepting applications for fall enrollment. Remember that enrollment is first come first served so get your applications back quickly, especially if you need Thursday! The required enrollment fee must accompany the application in order for us to accept it. Also, you cannot enroll for the fall if you have an outstanding balance. If you need another copy of the registration form, please see Mrs. Culkins or Ms. Grinder. It can also be downloaded here.

Policy Change
Please note that there is now a three block minimum requirement if you need Thursday. Other wise the two block minimum is still in place.

Summer Correspondence
Any written correspondence can be sent to HED at 328 Lowell St. or faxed to 781-860-5822. Phone messages can be left on voice mail at 781-860-5821. Mrs. Culkins checks mail and messages frequently and will get back to you in a timely manner. You will receive your space confirmation letter and other required forms in early August. Please remember they must be completed and returned on or before August 19th. There is a $25.00 Form Processing Fee for late submission of forms and your child CANNOT attend if we do not have their forms!

Allergy Alert
HED will again be accommodating several children with severe nut allergies. While HED is not “peanut free”, we ask parents to limit any peanut butter and nut products that you send with your child, if possible. HED provides only nut free snacks. Attached is a notice regarding food allergies and a list of foods containing peanut and other nut products. Please read this carefully as some of the foods listed may come as a surprise. Nuts are not the only food allergies we need to be concerned with and therefore we highly discourage any sharing of food and children are required to check with a teacher before eating anything brought from home. Thank you for your understanding.

Board of Director’s Meeting
The first meeting of the HED board for the new school year is scheduled for Monday, June 9th at 6:15 PM. Please see Mrs. Culkins for more information.

Late day snacks
With the school day starting earlier, lunch and snack time is now earlier. We are finding that by the end of the day, many kids are getting hungry. You want to consider adding a late day snack to your child’s lunch box.

*Reminder*

HED will strive to provide a peanut free environment at all times as much as possible. If you send in lunches or snacks that contain peanut butter or other nut products, please remind them they must let a teacher know. We hope to limit contamination of surfaces, supplies, games etc.

Please note: We highly discourage any sharing of food.
