February 2012
February School Closings
February Break
Extended Day will close at 6:00 on Friday, February 17th and re-open on Monday, February 27th for February vacation.
Well we have made it through the first month of 2012! It is crazy how quickly time flies! The weather has been very cooperative, and we are still enjoying the outdoors very much. Now that we are finally getting a little snow please remember to send your child in with snow pants, boots and extra gloves as needed.
We will continue to work hard towards the show and it will be here before you know it. Please keep the following information in mind:
- We appreciate that you are leaving your children here for entire rehearsals.
- If you have not paid costume fees yet please pay them as soon as possible. Checks should be made payable to Harrington Extended Day. Please note also that costume fees DO NOT include fees for base costumes (for girl dancers). Those will be billed in the next few weeks. A Request: If you have any base costume pieces that no longer fit your child, please consider donating them. Ms. Grinder will also try to assist in the swapping of these items as well. Thank you!
- CDs of show dance music have been given to the children so they can practice at home. If your child did not get a copy please see Ms. Grinder or Mrs. Culkins.
- Show Dates- Don’t forget the show dates are Thursday, April 12th at 6:00 and Friday, April 13th at 1:45. NOTE: THIS IS THE WEEK BEFORE SCHOOL VACATION. PLEASE PLAN ANY TRAVEL SO THAT IT DOES NOT INTERFERE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. THANKS!
Project Themes
The February themes are: Games Galore, X’s and O’s, Be Mine and Star Search. Please view the project calendar on our web site.
Communications
Please remember we need a PHONE CALL if your child is not going to attend extended day on a day they are normally scheduled. Please do not send messages through your child’s teacher or through email if the changes are for the same day as we may not get them in a timely manner.
Also, please be sure to update us if any of your contact information changes such as work or cell phone numbers so we can contact you if necessary. Thank you.
Extra Snack
We are finding that many children get very hungry towards the end of the day. You may want to consider sending a small late day snack as we can not always give an extra snack when children request food.
It’s Tax Time:
Please note the Tax ID Number for Harrington Extended Day is 04-2708792. The Tax ID # for Lextended Day is 04-2690064.
Homework/Rules Contracts
If you have not sent back your Homework Time and Rules Contracts please do so ASAP. If you need another copy of either, or if you have questions, please see Ms. Culkins, Ms. Grinder or Ms. Sine.
Reminder
Please be sure to check the front table periodically for anything labeled with your child’s last name. ALSO- Please remember to send lunches and toothbrushes on Thursdays.
Late Policy- As you are probably aware, the late policy is no longer a fine. If you are chronically late, Lextended Day reserves the right to terminate your enrollment. If arriving on time is consistently a problem, you will need to make alternative arrangements for pick up to avoid loss of space. Please refer to you Lextended Day Parent Handbook for that policy as well as others which may differ from years past. Thank you.
Allergy Alert
We will again be accommodating several children with severe nut and other food allergies. While we are not “peanut free”, we ask parents to limit any peanut butter, nut products and sesame that you send with your child, if possible. we provide only nut free snacks. Attached is a notice regarding food allergies and a list of foods containing peanut and other nut products. Please read it carefully as some of the foods listed may come as a surprise. Nuts are not the only food allergies we need to be concerned with and therefore we highly discourage any sharing of food and children are required to check with a teacher before eating anything brought from home. Thank you for your understanding.

Lextended Day at Harrington will be accommodating several children with potentially life threatening food allergies. We will make every possible effort to provide a peanut free environment as much as possible to decrease the chances of surface or air born contamination. Therefore, we are sending out this notice reminding parents of policies regarding this issue specifically.
At lunchtime on Thursday, we will provide a “peanut free” table. Only children with a “nut free” lunch (including, but not limited to peanut butter, coconut, pecans, walnuts & cashews) will be seated at this table. Please refer to the list of foods below which contain trace peanut or are made with peanut oil. Please read the list carefully and also understand that this list is by no means complete.
If children bring any food from home any effort made to ensure that it is nut free would be greatly appreciated. We will be asking that before the children eat anything from home they check with a staff in case they need a “safe” place to eat. At no time will any child be told they cannot eat.
We will only provide snacks that are obviously nut free.
Please remind your children of the importance of NOT sharing food. We will be reminding the group often of the serious nature of food allergies.
Thank you for your cooperation.
