Information for Prospective Employees

Harrington Extended Day (HED) strives to employ certified teachers, or those individuals who are completing course work, preferably in the field of education or human services. As a non-profit, private after school program, HED is licensed by the state of Massachusetts Office of Child Care Services. HED serves only children enrolled in the Harrington Elementary School.

 

HED employees work in a team teaching atmosphere, yet all full time employees have a specific field of expertise. Each employee contributes to the daily operations of the program in addition to the coordinator specific responsibilities. These full time coordinator positions are:

 

Kindergarten Coordinator
This person oversees the entire kindergarten program, including planning and implementing the curriculum, some staff supervision, formal and informal parent conferences, and maintaining a positive relationship with the kindergarten teachers with whom the program shares space. Desired credentials for this position would be a BS in Early childhood Ed.

 

Fine Art Coordinator
This person oversees the art curriculum for both the kindergartners and first through fifth graders. Responsibilities include planning and implementing fine art projects, ordering and inventory of supplies and overseeing the entire art/craft calendar each month. The program carries a generous budget specifically for fine art projects. Desired credentials for this position would be a BFA degree. Costume design/sewing skills are a plus.

 

Sports Coordinator
This person oversees the entire phys ed. curriculum including planning periodic active theme weeks and sport skill camps. Upkeep and inventory of equipment is also a requirement. Desired credentials would be a degree in Physical Education, preferably to include k-5.

 

Drama Coordinator
This person oversees the drama curriculum for the program. HED holds an annual show and the drama coordinator has the unique opportunity to develop original scripts with all of the various age groups. You would also work in cooperation with the dance teacher and other HED teachers on scenery, costuming and props. The desired credentials for this position would be a BA in Theater.

Full Time Employee Specifics

Hours:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 12:00-6:00, Thursday 11:00-6:00.


Pay:

Competitive.

 

Benefits:

Health and dental, 403 B.


Vacation:

Two weeks paid, to be taken during regular school vacation weeks.


Sick/Personal days:

Equal to the hours worked in one week.


Vacation Days:

We follow the school calendar for Lexington Public Schools. HED employees are paid for all vacation days on which you are normally scheduled to work. We are closed in the summer.

Part Time Employee Specifics

 

HED also employs several part time teachers. These positions are particularly well suited for those who are in continuing education since the hours and days worked can be somewhat flexible. Part time employees of HED often supplement their income and gain additional experience by tutoring in the classrooms at Harrington Elementary. Part time employees are able to bring their own experiences and interests while working and gaining experience at the elementary level. Part time employees are an integral part of the program and must have a flexible attitude. Desired credentials for these positions are persons who have experience in camp or other recreational settings, enjoy working with kids in a variety of activities such as outdoor play, arts and crafts and supervised homework time.


Hours:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 3:00-6:00 (some flex hours and/or days)
Thursday 11:00-6:00 (all employees required to work Thursday)


Pay:

Competitive.


Benefits:

Partial health, 403 B.


Vacation:

Two weeks paid, to be taken during regular school vacation weeks.
